Joseph Heinrichs PURE NICKEL
Joseph Heinrichs became well known for training his metal smiths in manufacturing and working with some of the heaviest gauges of copper on the market. This, his kitchenware, which he made mostly for hotels, steamships, railroads, and restaurants, was of a far superior weight, craftsmanship, and petina. The company also manufactured jacketed kettles and cooking utensils from nickel, silver, and copper. In 1901, 13 year old Angelo Scavullo was hired as an errand boy. When owner Joseph Heinrichs went bankrupt in 1937, Mr. Scavullo and several associates purchased the assets under the newly formed corporation, Legion Utensils Co. In 1941, Mr. Scavullo bought out his associates to become the sole owner. Because of the demand for alloy metals in WWII, MOST SOLID NICKEL COOKWARE WAS SCRAPPED FOR USE IN STEEL MAKING - very few examples survive today.
